The Fault in Our Stars by John Green is a heart felt, romance and drama full of hidden literary themes and motifs. John Green's reoccurring theme of fear of oblivion contrast with the mind set of the society in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. In The world state civilians are not scared of dyeing and see that no matter how they die they will always help the society with the disposal of their very own bodies. They are designed to help the world state even after death and always feel that they will leave a positive impact on their society after death. However in The Fault in our Stars, Augustus Waters has a long lasting fear of oblivion. He contrasts with those in the world state in that he feels no matter what he does he will never leave an impact on the world. He fears he will run out of time before he can leave an impact he fears to be forgotten by society. The fear of oblivion remains in the mind of individuals like Augustus who are able to think for themselves not like the in the world state who are forced to let the government control their thoughts.
